How to Emphasize Your Best Features With Appropriate Jewellery Styles That are Suitable for Your Body Frame

Posted on: August 25, 2011

For example, if your best feature is your collarbone, and you'd like to draw attention to this area, try wearing a highly decorated crystal necklace with a basic black dress. Wearing a simple black dress with an ornate crystal necklace creates an expensive and elegant look. The necklace attracts attention as if to say, "Look at how special I am!"  It subtlety frames the collarbone; while at the same time draws the eye toward the desired area.

If you have a long and elegant neck, and you'd like to accentuate it, try wearing a basic black, high turtleneck with a simple pearl choker. You would create a simple, yet classic look that is suitable for any occasion.  Of course, wearing the wrong style of jewellery can also create many undesirable looks!

Everyone has a unique shape, size and bone structure.  A combination of these elements plays an important role when determining which style of accessories suit us, and which styles don't.  Here are a few suggestions for accessorizing a variety of body frames:

Petite - Under 5'4"

Women who fall within this height range need to add length to their frame, and draw the viewer's eye upward in order to create the illusion of a longer, leaner line.  Wearing jewellery pieces that create the illusion of length are the best choices for you.

Necklaces

Women of petite stature look their best in collar length necklaces, and longer length necklaces. Necklaces that form the shape of a "V" are particularly flattering, especially if they fall below the bust-line and above the waist.  Try to avoid "U" shaped necklaces that end at, or above the breastbone.  These styles only tend to for-shorten your appearance, and they can make you look heavy. A necklace that falls below the waistline also for-shortens the height of a smaller frame, and draws the viewer's attention downward instead of upward.

Earrings

Geometric shaped earrings that sweep upward on the ear flatter a petite frame. Because the viewer's eye is directed upward, this creates the illusion of a longer, leaner line and taller frame.  Full-figured petite women also look particularly smart in geometric shapes.

*Please also keep in mind that the shape of your face also plays an active role in your choices, and should be adapted accordingly.  For example if you have a heart face, short neck and petite frame, try wearing medium length triangle earrings, rather than very long dangling earrings.

Bracelets

Wearing a number of narrow bangles rather than one wide bracelet is the most flattering to a petite frame, because it's more proportionate to the body size.  Large bracelets tend to overtake a petite frame and can look overwhelming. Too few bangles can look sparse and insignificant on a smaller frame.

Average - 5'4" -5'7"

If you fall within this category you're a lucky lady! You're neither too tall, nor too short. A wide range of options and styles of accessories are available for you to explore and enjoy! Choosing the appropriate style and scale of accessories will only help to further compliment your stature, and highlight your personal style.

Necklaces

Average sized women can wear necklaces of any length, or shape (unless you're full-figured).  If you're full-figured, make sure that the length of necklace that you wear lies above the breastbone.  Remember to keep in mind that on whatever area of your body your necklace covers, it is accentuated.  For example, if you have a large bust and you want it to be de-emphasized, it's best to wear your necklaces above the bust-line rather than directly over the area.

Earrings

Once again, because of your body frame, your choices of earring styles are endless!  Remember to also keep in mind your facial shape, hairstyle and neckline when choosing the appropriate styles and sizes.

Bracelets

Wearing one or two wider bracelets is more proportionate to the average sized figure, and is therefore the most flattering.  Try to avoid wearing very narrow bracelets, or bangles.  They will look sparse and get lost on your frame.

Tall - Over 5'7"

Because of your long frame, you're able to wear almost any style and shape of jewellery that you'd like with ease! Remember to take care when choosing the appropriate scale for your body size.  This is essential to avoid any pieces of jewellery from looking lost and insignificant on your statuesque frame!

Necklaces

Your choices are numerous and varied with very few limitations. If you're tall and thin, you may decide to wear a high choker to cut a horizontal line across the neck and de-emphasize your height.  Wearing a "U" shaped necklace that lies above the breastbone also helps to for-shorten height. Stones, pearls, and beads of similar shapes and of equal sizes look especially flattering on tall women.

Earrings

Because tall women tend to have plenty of space between their earlobes and shoulders, long dangling earrings look the most flattering.  Any other shape also looks great, except for button earrings, or studs.  These types of styles tend to look lost on a tall female.

Bracelets

Wide bracelets, lots of narrow bracelets and anything in between is fine to wear.  As far as variety in style, almost anything goes! However try to avoid pieces that are fine and delicate in design and size. They look lost and disproportionate on your tall frame. Large chunky beads in geometric shapes also look amazing on tall, full-figured women.
